As we all know, the State of California has asked everyone to wear masks in indoor spaces. However, some at Mass are not wearing masks. I would ask you to reconsider your actions given that there are parishioners who attend Mass and then return home to parents or loved ones that fall into high risk groups. When masks aren't worn, they question whether or not they should be attending Mass. They are worried about putting loved ones at risk.
Charity for others--and not necessarily because the state so demands, requires us to respond to their needs. St. Paul says that meat that is offered to idols remains but meat; and, so, can be eaten. But he says there are those who are weak in their faith and who are scandalized by his eating of this meat offered to idols. So, St. Paul says, even though he knows there is nothing sinful in eating such meat, he will refrain from doing so out of concern for others. May we act accordingly in this matter. In all things, let charity prevail.
